1 Day Beginning Fly Fishing and Fly Casting Course
Many times we have heard people say…
"I'd like to try that sometime, I want to learn to fly fish!"
Ever seen A River Runs Through It? Or met someone who is simply crazy about
fly fishing – a real fly fishing addict? Ever thought, “I’d like to try
that!” Well, this is your chance to find out what all the excitement is
about. Basic Fly Fishing is a survey of our sport, an informative, hands-on
stream-side introduction into the world of fly fishing. The essence of fly
fishing is presenting (casting) the right fly in just the right way to a
hungry fish, fooling him into thinking your fly is really a tasty meal – one
he just can’t resist. That’s fly fishing in a nut shell and in this class,
we’ll show you how it’s done and get you started. By the way, anglers fly
fish for everything from stream born trout to giant 100 lb. tarpon cruising
tropical lagoons. In this course, we focus on rainbow trout.
We begin by introducing you to the trout’s world: what a tout is, where they
live in the river and why. Next we talk about food that what trout eat and
actually go on a “bug hunt” stream side to find and identify the critters:
they’re awesome! Then explain what a “fly” is, and show you how “flies”
imitate trout food. Together, we compare real bugs to artificial ones
(flies) and show you how to “match the hatch“ by selecting the best
imitation to present to hungry trout.
How to fly fish and fly cast?
Speaking of presenting your fly, we teach you how to cast a fly line (we
have fly rods and reels on hand) and we step you through the moves in the
casting stroke. It’s easy. You’ll learn what to do when a trout takes (eats)
your fly: how to set the hook, bring ‘em in, and gently release them back
into the stream unharmed. We promise an informative, hands-on learning
adventure into the world of fly fishing! And finally, if you’re “hooked”
like we are, we talk about “what’s next” and how we can take the next step
together.
