The World's Best Trout Fishing

2019 The Best of Kamchatka

July 22nd - 29th, 2019 Hosted By Shan Sedgwick

7 Nights/6 Days Fishing in the Ozernaya River Camp - $8695 Per Angler
*Flights are from Anchorage, AK to Petropavlovsk July 22nd, and July 29th

Joe Rotter and Shan Sedgwick from Red's Fly Shop personally hosted our first trip to Russia together as a team in 2018.  We learned the in's and out's of the travel process, camp details, and of course the fishing which has been said to be the "World's Best Rainbow Trout Fishing".  This is a wonderful opportunity to travel with a highly experienced angler and fly fishing mentor. During this week of July the goal is target trophy Rainbows on mouse patterns and streamers. We will certainly spend time using Trout Spey tackle in addition to traditional single hand rods.  You can leave your egg patterns at home!  We have chosen the Ozernaya River Camp because of its reputation and straightforward logistics.

The Best of Kamchatka

The Ozernaya has been called one of the greatest trout streams of all time. The Oz is a large spring creek with an unbelievable numbers of large Rainbows averaging over 20 inches.  The OZ is easy to wade and gin clear, much of the fishing is visual.  The Ozernaya has every single ingredient for large Rainbow Trout: bugs, salmon, and a large sculpin population.

How Do We Get There?

Flights will connect to from Anchorage, Alaska to Petropavlovsk, Kamchatka on Yakutia Air and will be available to purchase and confirm in November/December 2017.  The flight from Anchorage to Petro departs at 7:30 am (AK Time), so anglers will need to be in Anchorage the night before.  The flight is +/- 4.5 hours.

Once on the ground in Petro, we'll be picked up for a 3 hour van ride to meet our Mi-8 helicopter. We'll fly, land for fuel, and then fly directly to the Ozernaya River Camp and your home for a week of the world's best Rainbow Trout Fishing!  We plan to get out fishing that afternoon after we unpack.

On departure day we'll travel from camp to Petro, and fly back to Anchorage and connect with your flight home all in one day. No overnights are required on the return trip.

About Fishing at the Ozernaya River Camp

The "Oz" camp hosts a maximum of 10 anglers per week in A-frame-style cabins.  They are warm, comfortable, dry, and mostly bug-free. They have electricity and wood stove heat.

In-camp amenities include a wood-fire heated shower, flush toilet, and evening campfires around a riverside fire pit that overlooks the Oz. Anglers will want to bring their own sleeping bag and mattress sheet.  Each cabin features two beds with basic mattresses.

Anglers will depart each morning access the river with small jet boats. With this fixed-camp option, anglers have access to several dozen miles of private water both above and below the camp. The Oz is full of fat, healthy rainbows averaging 20 inches with fish in the upper 20 inch range caught each day.  It is indeed the world's best Rainbow Trout fishing.

Food, Drink, and Communication

There is a community dining room and kitchen building at camp is where guests will enjoy hot meals everyday. Hot coffee and the Russian version of "chai" tea are always available. The menu is a mix of both American and Russian cuisine.  Internet access is not available during your stay and cell phones will not work during your visit.
