 Red's Big Fish
of the Month Club
Red's Fly
Shop is proud to bring you the Big Fish of the Month
Club. The top entry at the end of each month will
be awarded a Red's Fly Shop hat. The Big Fish of the
Month Club is done on the honor system. No photo is
required to validate your catch, nor is it necessary
that an exact measurement be taken at the time the
fish is brought to hand. Simply marking the length of
the fish on your rod, and measuring it later is
acceptable. Red's Fly Shop does not encourage,
support, nor condone the mishandling of any fish. To
submit an entry for the Big Fish of the Month Club,
fill out a simple form (Acrobat PDF or Word
DOC) and stop by. All
information must be completed to
validate an entry.

Practicing Safe Catch and Release
1. Play the fish as speedily as possible. The
shorter the fish is on the line, the better the chance
of survival, especially with warmer water
temperatures. If the fish is in strong current, walk
it down to softer water to land the fish, and use a
net with a soft bag. These two factors will allow you
to bring the fish to hand more quickly.
2. Keep the fish in the water and upright, even in
the net. With barbless hooks you can often unhook
fish without touching them by using a Ketchum Release
tool or just pinching the bend of the hook with your
hemostats and twisting it upwards.
3. If you must touch the fish, make sure you wet your
hands first and utilize the Catch and Release glove if
you have one.
4. If the fish is fatigued, support the fish in the
water facing upstream until it regains its' eqilibrium
before letting it go. DO NOT attempt to release a
fish in extremely heavy current.
5. For photos, choose an area where if the fish flops
out of your hands, it lands in the water, not in the
bottom of the boat, or on rocks. Wait until the
person taking the picture is ready, and then raise the
fish, shoot the photo, and put it back in the water
immediately.
