British Columbia Steelhead

To anglers across the globe, steelhead are a highly prized quarry.  Not only are the fish themselves beautiful, especially the fresh ones that have an almost translucent color to them that no photo or painting could ever quite capture accurately, but they live in some of the most scenic places in the world.

The Skeena River and its' many tributaries remain one of the best places in the world to pursue wild steelhead with a 2 handed rod and swung fly.  Some of these tributaries are extremely remote and not only require complicated logistics to get to, but are also very expensive.  This is a gem of a program that caters to the Do It Yourself angler in terms of budget and flexibility.  Whether this would be your first time fishing BC or you already know your way around, this is a quality program that you can find great value and convenience in!

The Weekly Fishing Schedule

This itinerary begins with a leisurely Sunday afternoon arrival into Terrace, BC.  A rental truck awaits the group in the parking lot, and the lodge is only 5 minutes down the road!  After settling into the spacious accommodations for the week, and hitting the local supermarket to pick up breakfast and lunch provisions for the week, you can visit one of the many Terrace restaurants for dinner or cook at home.

The local outfitter hosting this trip is Gill McKean of Westcoast Fishing Adventures and his experienced guide team.  Gill or one of his crew will join the group the next morning and collect half of the group to fish for the day on whichever river they decide offers the best opportunity to swing a fly past the nose an aggressive fish.  The rest of the group will load up on their own, and go search the waters of the Copper or lower Skeena for that glassy tailout or smooth riffle that might hold one of the trophy steelhead this region is famous for.  Everyone will meet up to recap each anglers day over burgers and a frosty mug of Molson.  Anglers will switch between guided and DIY each day of the week to take full advantage of local expertise and the ever changing conditions steelhead anglers may encounter!

The lodge is equipped to handle a group of 6 anglers.  Two bedrooms downstairs and one upstairs are each set up with 2 double beds.  The furniture is comfortable and a modern kitchen makes the limited food preparation you may do here easy and efficient.  A large deck offers a perfect spot to step in and out of waders each day, and a convenient rack just inside the door ensures ample drying time each night.  The lodge has a printer installed to remain as flexible as possible in purchasing daily classified waters fishing licenses the night before or even early the morning of fishing based on real time conditions and reports.  The only thing to be mindful of is keeping the bears out of the garbage cans at night!
